Castillo Suárez

Castillo Suárez (Alsasua, 1976) has a degree in Basque Philology and works as a Basque language expert in local government. She is a member of the Basque Academy of Letters, Euskaltzaindia. She has written several books for children and pens opinion pieces regularly for newspapers, and in the last few years has published the following poetry collections: Mugarri estaliak (Susa, 2000); Spam poemak (Elkar, 2004); Bala hutsak (Elkar, 2006); Souvenir (Elkar, 2008—for which she received the Joseba Laka Scholarship), Urtebetetze festa (Elkar, 2012), Irautera (2019) and the illustrated poem Zerua berun (Mezulari, 2014), which receieved the Peru Abarka Prize. Her most recent poetry collection is Elurra elurraren gainean (Desktop publishing, 2021). She coordinates the Basque poetry blog Iparraldeko neska [Girl from the North].
