Ana-Maria Chaves is a Portuguese literary translator of prose and poetry, a translation reviewer, a literary translator trainer at the Postgraduation in Translation of Autonoma University, and a retired university lecturer of English and Translation. She taught at the University of Minho (1978-2012) and at ISLA-V.N.Gaia (1990-96). She has translated, and co-translated, among many other authors, novels by Lawrence, Hardy, Dickens, Conrad, Maugham, Woolf, Lodge, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Twain and Ford. She translated “The Pied Piper of Hamelin”, by R. Browning 11443.pdf (up.pt); a collection of poems by the Brontë Sisters; five poems by Yeats on Ana-Maria Chaves | Yeats Reborn; she translated into English a collection of Portuguese poems to be included in “A Little Anthology of Portuguese Poems”. Her co-translation of Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” was awarded a honourable mention by the Portuguese Society of Authors in 2020. She lives in Oporto.
