Ana-Maria Chaves is a Portuguese literary translator of prose and poetry, a translation reviewer, a literary translator trainer at the Postgraduation in Translation of Autonoma University, and a retired university lecturer of English and Translation. She taught at the University of Minho (1978-2012) and at ISLA-V.N.Gaia (1990-96). She has translated, and co-translated, among many other authors, novels by Lawrence, Hardy, Dickens, Conrad, Maugham, Woolf, Lodge, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Twain and Ford.
